This research from GenderSphere documents and analyses what assaults on the Muslim community in India over the last several years mean for the citizenship rights of Muslim women.

Based on the findings of primary and secondary research carried out in collaboration with a feminist network in Uttar Pradesh (UP) between September 2021 – July 2024, it examines both the nature, manifestations, and drivers of the assaults against the rights of Muslim women, as well as the various strategies that organisations and networks working with Muslim women employ to subvert and resist the assault and (re)claim rights. This report foregrounds the voices of activists, organisations, and networks working with Muslim women as it is premised on the understanding that feminist mobilising and the processes of building collective voice, are essential to claim/reclaim the citizenship rights of Muslim women.
